Context

The client was running 14 tools that did not talk to each other — warehousing, customs and settlement each had their own. Data was reconciled by hand in spreadsheets. Staff lost close to two hours a day to copy-paste and cross-checking, and any mistake meant hunting for its source across several systems.

The real challenge

The hard part was not visual polish. It was collapsing the operator’s path without touching the underlying business rules. We spent three weeks shadowing picking staff, customs clerks and finance specialists, then compressed more than 60 high-frequency actions into 12 core flows.

What I did

  • Mapped the flows and the field relationships across all 14 systems into a single shared data dictionary
  • Reworked the information architecture around roles and tasks instead of departments, cutting cross-team menu hopping
  • Built a component library of 40+ high-frequency patterns (tables, filters, bulk actions) with two themes for desktop and scanner devices
  • Implemented the front end in TypeScript and Vite; virtualised tables brought 10k-row rendering from 6s down to 400ms

Outcome

Three months after launch: picking throughput up 32%, cross-system reconciliation tickets down 78%, onboarding cut from two weeks to four days. The component library was later reused in two other internal systems.
